Tunisia’s Ministry of Agriculture unveiled a long-term strategy running through 2050 for the country’s olive oil sector at a public-private consultation workshop held on September 25, 2026, just weeks after the industry closed out a record-breaking season.

A Record Season for Tunisian Olive Oil

The 2025/26 campaign produced roughly 500,000 tonnes of olive oil, an increase of about 47% over the previous season, according to figures cited by Tunisia’s Ministry of Agriculture. Exports reached 381,000 tonnes in the first ten months of the campaign, up more than 50% year-on-year, including 53,000 tonnes of certified organic oil. Olive oil now accounts for roughly 10% of Tunisia’s national agricultural production and 44% of its agricultural exports, a sector built on 2.1 million hectares of olive groves, 147 million trees, and around 309,000 farming operations across the country.

Charting a Course to 2050

At the workshop in Tunis, officials and industry stakeholders discussed a long-range strategy — dubbed “Olive Oil 2050” — designed to raise the sector’s added value, improve product quality, and expand access to international markets, while helping producers adapt to climate, technological, and economic pressures over the coming decades. For buyers sourcing from Tunisia, the combination of record volumes and a government-backed push toward higher-value, quality-certified oil is worth watching closely: it signals a good window to lock in supply contracts and ask Tunisian producers about organic and origin certification while volumes remain strong.
